ILR’s Faces of Lawsuit Abuse hosts traveled across America to ask folks their opinions about our lawsuit culture and where their state ranked.
Can you pick the fake lawsuit?
This summer, we traveled around the country to see if people could guess whether lawsuits over a too-hard handshake, some unwanted cheese on a hamburger, icy iced coffee, or other crazy things were fake, or real. Check out the video here. The answers may surprise you.
We’re quizzing America on lawsuits because our 2019 Lawsuit Climate Survey: Ranking the States just came out, and the states we visited in this video didn’t fare very well. Every state was ranked from best to worst based on perceptions of the fairness of their lawsuit system.
Illinois, for example ranked dead last. Louisiana? 49th. Missouri was all the way down at 44.
States should take their ranking seriously, as a record 89 percent of survey respondents said a state’s lawsuit environment is likely to impact their company’s decisions about where to locate or do business.
The 2019 Lawsuit Climate Survey: Ranking the States is the 12th time The Harris Poll has conducted the survey since 2002 for the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform. The final results are based on interviews in-house general counsel, senior litigators or attorneys, and other senior executives at public and private companies with annual revenue of at least $100 million.
